Tattoo Expo Detroit

DETROIT, MI - Tattoo artists and and body art lovers from around the nations sung the praises of the 19th annual Motor City Tattoo Expo at the Marriott in the GM Renaissance Center this weekend.

Upon entering the convention room, the buzz of tattoo machines filled the air. Men and women lay in chairs while artists latex-gloved artists blocked out the bustle surrounding them and concentrated intently on creating pieces of permanent skin art for their eager recipients.

Generally everyone who'd been to the show before said it continues to improve and separate itself from other similar expos by keeping a focus on bringing only the most skilled tattooists. The event is put on by

The event ran Friday through Sunday at 6 p.m.

Among those receiving ink on Sunday was Chuck Greenberg, 30, of Long Island, N.Y. He sat, or lay rather, for his third tattoo of the weekend on his left side by Jess Yen, a favorite of Greenberg. He spent over 11 hours under the needle between sessions on Friday and Saturday.

Greenberg said he's got to fight through the pain. It's not often his favorite artists from across the nation are under one roof.

"I don't know, I just tell him to do whatever, " said Mike Adams, 41, of Jackson, as he received a back tattoo from Mike Davis.

"I just draw, have fun and let it flow, " said Davis, who has done all of Adams' tattoos in this spontaneous unplanned manner.

"They put on a real class show, " he said. "Probably one of the best, and I've been to them all over the world."

In between competitions, we performed for thousands of people at venues such as the Twin Cities Pet Expo. After shows and competitions, many of the families would stick around to meet and pet the dogs.
