PHUKET: As this paper went to press, just 20 per cent of 500 booths allocated for the kingdom’s largest wellness and beauty convention – to be held from September 18-20 at the Impact Muang Thong Thani Convention and Exhibition Centre (MTT) on the north of the Thai capital – remain available for reservation.
“This year’s going to be larger than ever, generating a significant amount of business” remarked Ms Pornphan Bulner, Assistant Director of Impact MTT’s Exhibition Project Department.
Organizers this year decided to hold the third edition of the World Spa & Well-being Convention 2014, a major health and wellness industry expo held in Thailand annually, in conjunction with the Beyond Beauty Asean – Bangkok event, she explained.
Ms Bulner was recently in Phuket with a marketing team as part of a road-show campaign to promote the event, which will also be held in conjunction with the 7th Building Maintenance & Asset Management or BMAM expo, the Green Buildings & Retrofits Expo Asia and the Pulire Asia Pacific 2014 (a cleaning industry expo) – all to be held at the kingdom’s largest exhibition and convention centre simultaneously from September 18-20.
“It makes sense to combine [the Beyond Beauty Asean and World Spa & Well Being Convention] as both events have similar if not complementary target groups, ” Ms Pornphan told the Phuket News.
She noted that so far, organizers of the beauty and wellness expo have confirmed reservations from some 400 beauty, spa, medical and wellness operators, product and/or service providers – from not only Thailand but throughout the bloc Asean and the greater region and other parts of the globe.
“This year, we’re expecting about 15, 000 guests, visitors and buyers to attend the three day event, with exhibition space spanning 20, 000 square meters, ” she said, adding that last year’s edition of the WSWBC had only 175 booths across 5, 000sq meters.
“There will be a particularly large Chinese and Korean presence … Aside from the expos, there will also be a major beauty and health congress on September 18 and 19, featuring a number of parallel events – seminars, workshops, conferences, training courses and renowned expert speakers and we are planning for between 1, 500 and 2, 000 delegates, ” she said.
Behold, the business of beauty is is bulging... if certainly not expanding, and rapidly at that. According to statistics from Beyondbeautyasean.com, the Asean cosmetics market grew three fold and then some in the last seven years from B120 billion in 2007 to over B420 billion currently. It is projected that the industry will grow a further 3-6 per cent by next year.
